In celebration of the Class of 1977’s 50th Reunion, Colleen Conrado Ferguson, BFA ’06, and Tom Ferguson, MBA ’08, JD ’08, are pleased to offer a special class challenge. Their generous $500,000 commitment will match, dollar for dollar, all new, renewed, and multi-year pledge gifts made in honor of reunion.
WashU has played a meaningful role in both Colleen’s and Tom’s lives. Colleen’s undergraduate experience as a member of the Class of 1977 established a lifelong connection to the university, while Tom’s time as a graduate and law student further deepened their shared WashU ties.

oug Frohman, AB ’77, and Jonathan Haas, AB ’75, brought Carl Orff’s Astutuli to life April 24–25 at New York University’s Iris Cantor Theater.
Ann Calandro, MA ’77, received a 2026 Individual Artist Finalist Award from the New Jersey Council on the Arts for “Lost in Words,” the title story in her collection of short stories (Serving House Press, 2025).
Myrna Greenfield, AB ’77, published Marketing Your Farm: A practical guide to attracting loyal customers and increasing sales (Savvy Press, 2022).

Advocating for access: ‘The journey continues’
Music brought Larry Thomas, BSBA ’77, to WashU — the Vicksburg, Mississippi, native became smitten with the campus after staying on the South 40 during a high school band competition. Personal connections and mentors helped him succeed. And passion for greater access to a WashU education, among other joys, keeps him engaged in a lifelong relationship with the university.
Mentoring natural leaders
Growing up, Stephen Lockhart, MD, AB ’77, was struck by his mother’s deep interest in helping others achieve four-year degrees. “Back then, she spent her life tirelessly teaching and getting babysitters and helping the students,” he notes about his mother, who was a mathematician with a graduate degree in urban planning from Washington University. Yet she was not able to find a suitable job in urban planning or mathematics until well into the 1970s, which made an impression on him, too.
Class of '77 To Receive Over 2600 Degrees; Includes Record Number of PhD's and JD's
Record numbers of degree candidates from the School of Law and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences will be among the 2618 WU students to receive degrees this year. Carla Anderson Hills, lawyer and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, will deliver the principal address entitled "The Quality of Life."
