Lifelong home, career hub for students and alumni
The Neil S. Hirsch Center serves as a place of both exploration and return, fostering the career development of students and strengthening the bonds between students, alumni, employers, and University Advancement staff.
Operating under a nationally unique model that integrates career support and alumni engagement within one central, highly visible, state-of-the-art space, the Hirsch Center is both a rallying point for alumni who come back to campus and a place of inspiration and professional development for students preparing to enter the world beyond WashU.
Wherever you fall on your lifelong continuum of engagement with the university, the Hirsch Center is a welcoming home base. By bringing together WashU’s Center for Career Engagement (CCE) and University Advancement alumni welcome enterprise, we foster a vibrant, multigenerational community that empowers future alumni and celebrates former students.
The center will host new and traditional alumni activities and facilitate career coaching, exploration, and development, while providing space for employers to engage and recruit WashU talent. It will provide a beautiful, dynamic space where organic interactions take place between diverse members of the WashU community. This will create new career opportunities and forge new personal and professional connections.
Step inside
Located on the southwest corner at the intersection of Skinker and Forsyth Boulevards, the center will occupy a three-story, roughly 31,800-square-foot building that offers expansive views of Brookings Hall and Forest Park. Meanwhile, its interior is strategically designed to strengthen connections between students, alumni, employers, campus visitors, and Advancement and CCE staff.
Designed for: informal gatherings and community events
This tree-lined outdoor space will extend meaningful interactions between students, alumni, staff, and employers within an inviting natural environment that echoes the green expanses on the Danforth Campus.
The Hirsch Center is named for Neil S. Hirsch, a groundbreaking entrepreneur whose career and legacy embodies the ambitious, visionary, and deeply impactful careers that the center seeks to foster for future generations of students and alumni.
Hirsch, who died in 2021, founded Telerate, a company that revolutionized the trading of government, fixed income, and foreign exchange securities through the development of a novel technology platform that collected and disseminated information not otherwise available to traders at the time. He went on to acquire a controlling interest in Loanet, a company that processed over 80% of securities borrowed and loaned in the United States. He later sold Loanet to SunGard Data Systems.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Hirsch was recognized as a generous and passionate polo player and a dedicated advocate for children. During his lifetime, he made gifts to support Olin Business School, including scholarships and naming a classroom in Simon Hall in honor of his father. He was an active member of the Wellington, Fla., community, where he supported numerous organizations, including providing funding for the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club.
